Lake Erie is 4-1-0-0 against Rochester this season and 15-8-1-1 all-time against the Amerks. When these two teams met at Quicken Loans Arena on January 20th, the Monsters claimed a 2-1 overtime victory to take a three-game lead in this series. After a scoreless first period, Rochester got on the board with a shorthanded goal by Kenndal McArdle that was assisted by Chris Taylor. At 15:08 of the third period, David van der Gulik scored off assists from T.J. Galiardi and Travis Gawryletz. The game went scoreless through the remainder of regulation, setting up a five-minute overtime session. Just 2:34 into OT, Mark Olver lifted the Monsters to victory by scoring off an assist from Cameron Gaunce. Lake Erie went 0-for-4 on the power play, while Rochester failed on two attempts with the man advantage. Goaltender John Grahame turned aside 20 of the 21 shots, while Jacob Markstrom stopped 39 of 41 in the Rochester loss. History Lesson With a 4-3 triumph in Peoria on Sunday, the Monsters established a franchise record for road wins in a single season (16). Friday’s 7-2 win over Grand Rapids came as Lake Erie’s 35th overall win of the campaign, establishing a franchise best for single-season victories. By winning all five games in their recent road trip (March 11-20), the Monsters tied a franchise mark for consecutive wins overall and on the road. Facts and Figures Remarkably, Lake Erie has won 13 of its last 16 games (13-3-0-0) and 21 of its last 28 (21-6-0-1) outings. Through their last five games, the Monsters have gone 7-for-25 (28%) on the power play, while they’ve denied 38 of the opposition’s last 40 attempts (95%) with the man advantage. Q Tips Tonight, the Monsters return to The Q where they are 21-9-2-3. Lake Erie’s 21 home wins are the most of any team in the North Division, while its nine losses at home are the fewest in the seven-team group. The Monsters have not played a home game since March 5th, when they dropped 3-2 decision to the Rockford IceHogs. Prior to that setback, the Monsters had won seven straight home games, while they had collected a point in their previous eight games (7-0-0-1) in friendly confines.
