Tough Start to Roadies on Wednesday

Lake Erie headed to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on Wednesday to begin a four-game road swing over the course of the next two weeks.  They quickly ran into a road block in the form of the Penguins, falling 3-1.

Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored three unanswered goals in the first two periods before Lake Erie was able to get on the board.  Mark Letestu and Jonathan Filewich combined for five of the Penguins eight points on the night.

The two teams almost made it to the first intermission with a scoreless tie, but Letestu started the Penguins scoring stretch at 19:03.  He was assisted by Filewich and Mark Ardelan.

Letestu carried his hot hand into the second stanza, scoring just :56 seconds in on a power play.  Filewich was again credited with the helper, as was Nathan Smith.

Ten minutes later, Filewich got in on the scoring action himself, finding the back of the net at the 11:01 mark of the second.  Joe Jensen got the assist on the goal.

The Monsters responded just  a minute later, as Matt Hussey notched his eighth goal of the season.  He was assisted by Michael Vernace and Brad Richardson at 12:05.  Lake Erie was unable to cut into Wilkes-Barre/Scranton's lead any further, resulting in the final 3-1 score.

Tyler Weiman started in goal for the Monsters for the third straight game, and fifth of the last six.  He recorded 22 saves on 25 shots.  John Curry saved 14 of the 15 shots he faced.

Next up, Lake Erie travels for a weekend back-to-back, beginning Friday in Philadelphia, followed by Saturday in Hershey.
