Another Overtime with Crunch, This Time a LossTweet01/22/2008 9:30 PM
The pace of the game began as if warm-ups had never ended. Both teams appeared stagnate in their approach on the offensive end. Syracuse, however, got on the board first as right wing Adam Pineault posted his 12th marker of the season at the 16:51 mark of the first. Pineault was fortunate to find the loose biscuit on the doorstep following a Tyler Weiman sprawling save to his right. The tally was assisted by Duvie Westcott and Gilbert Brule. The Monsters found an answer to the Crunch’s power play tally with one of their own as they lit the lamp at the 5:01 mark of the second period. Wyatt Smith notched his first goal of the season and his first as a Monster on a left-to-right move from his backhand. Credited with the assist was Jamie Lundmark, who has posted points in three of his last four games, while Smith recorded his second point in as many games. “I was very lucky. Lundy (Lundmark) made a great give-and-go to me and I was lucky to score,” said Smith. “The outcome was unfortunate though because Tyler is playing great for us in net. We need to step up and get some goals for him.” Unfortunately for the Monsters, the scoring stopped after Smith’s marker as the game entered the overtime period following a scoreless third, deadlocked at 1-1. “Guys were trying to play too much for a perfect game. They were not getting back on defense and weren’t causing traffic in front of the opponent’s goal,” said Monsters head coach Joe Sacco. Syracuse turned a Lake Erie turnover into a game-winner via the blade of winger Joakim Lindstrom at the 3:49 mark. The goal marks Lindstrom’s 18th of the season. He was assisted by defenseman Clay Wilson and centerman Zenon Konopka. Lake Erie netminder Weiman stopped 26 of the 28 shots that he faced. Opposing goalie Adam Munro turned away 24 of 25 shots. The Monsters will return home on Saturday following a two-game road swing in Hamilton and Rochester. Lake Erie will host the Rochester Americans at 7:30 p.m. at The Q.
