Former Monsters in Denver CommunityTweet01/11/2012 9:45 AM
Monsters fans have seen their favorite players out in the Cleveland community trying to make a difference while they're here. Well that doesn't stop when they get called up to Colorado. We thought you'd like to see some former Monsters, now Avs, still lending a helping hand in the community. Take a look as they visit a children's hospital, take at-risk kids rock climbing and skate with disabled athletes:
Rookie defenseman Stefan Elliott recently spent his evening on the ice working with players from Colorado Special Hockey, an organization that provides developmentally disabled athletes the opportunity to play hockey. The clinic was part of the Avalanche Player Clinic Program, in which Avs players visit youth hockey practices throughout the season. View photos:
Former Monster TJ Galiardi, along with Avs rookie Gabriel Landeskog, worked with Denver Bouldering Club and Climbing for Life to bring 15 at-risk kids to try rock climbing for the first time as part of the Avs Team Fit program.
The entire Avalanche team - which at the time included one-time Monsters Brad Malone, Stefan Elliott, Evan Brophey, David van der Gulik, Brandon Yip, Cody McLeod, TJ Galiardi, Ryan Wilson and David Jones, as well as head coach Joe Sacco and Sylvain Lefebvre - made their annual holiday visit to Children’s Hospital Colorado. Players, coaches and mascot Bernie visited patient rooms, distributed Bernie plush animals, signed autographs and took pictures with the children and their families. This visit marked the 15th year of this Avalanche tradition.
