Win Streak Ends at Four in Rochester

Six goals allowed in the final 40 minutes brought an end to the Lake Erie Monsters (25-23-2-2) four-game winning streak and seven-game unbeaten-in-regulation streak. The Rochester Americans (23-19-6-3) earned a 6-2 win over the Monsters in Rochester Friday night. The two teams meet again Saturday night at Quicken Loans Arena in Cleveland.

Patrick Rissmiller extended his goal-scoring streak to four games when he opened the scoring on the Monsters second power play of the night at the 17:59 mark of the first period. Tyson Barrie, returning to the Monsters lineup after four games with the Colorado Avalanche, found Rissmiller open in the right circle, and Rissmiller one-timed the puck off the near post and into the Rochester goal. Greg Mauldin also assisted on Rissmiller's eighth goal of the season.

Marcus Foligno, Derek Whitmore, and T.J. Brennan scored for Rochester in the first 5:28 of the second period, bringing a premature end to Monsters goalie Gerald Coleman's evening. James Reid, who hadn't played since January 26th, relieved Coleman.

Stefan Elliott scored on a wrist shot from the right point at 9:42 of the second period for his third goal of the season to pull the Monsters to within one, 3-2. Dean Strong and Peter MacArthur recorded the assists on the goal.

Following a brilliant save by Reid on Rochester's Alex Biega in the third period, the Americans continued their pressure as Whitmore found the back of the goal to extend the Rochester lead to 4-2.

Rochester's Maxime Legault and Brayden McNabb scored late in the third to secure the 6-2 win for Rochester.

Coleman (8-3-1) stopped 13 of 16 shots in net for the Monsters before being pulled after 25:04 of action. Reid stopped 19 of 22 shots in his relief appearance. David Leggio (15-14-1) beat the Monsters for the second time this season.

The Monsters and Americans meet again Saturday night on "Cavs Night" at The Q, featuring appearances by Cavaliers rookies Kyrie Irving and Tristan Thompson. The action can be heard Saturday night on AM 1220 WHKW and seen live on MY 43 THE BLOCK WUAB.
