Monsters, Wolves Meet in Cleveland

Game-two of a five-game homestand for the Lake Erie Monsters (12-12-1-1) brings the Chicago Wolves (11-9-2-1) into Quicken Loans Arena for the first meeting between the two clubs this season. All the action begins at 7:30 PM, and if you're unable to make it to The Q tonight, catch all the action live on AM 1220 WHKW and MY 43 THE BLOCK WUAB. The Monsters enter having lost their last three games, while Chicago has won back-to-back contests.

The Monsters fell Thursday evening at home to Rochester by a 7-6 score despite the fact that the Monsters entered the third period leading 5-2. In the loss, four different Monsters tallied multi-point games, with Bill Thomas (Two goals, one assist) and Mike Sgarbossa (One goal, two assists) leading the way. For Thomas, the multi-point game was his second of the season, and for Sgarbossa, the game marked the seventh time this season he has compiled two or more points in a contest. Stefan Elliott and Mark Olver also chipped in with a goal and an assist each, and the Monsters tied a season-best with 39 shots on net. However, the Monsters allowed five goals in the third period; the fifth time in Monsters team history that they have surrendered five goals in a period.

Sgarbossa, despite being in his first professional season, has proven to be a catalyst for the Monsters offense. Whether he's scoring a highlight-reel goal or tapping in a loose puck as he did on Thursday, or setting up an opponent as he did twice for Thomas on Thursday, the Monsters scoring leader looks to have the ability to shoulder an offensive load and responsibility beyond his years.

Former Monsters forward Darren Haydar started the season slowly- despite the fact that the Wolves shot out of the gate with four consecutive wins- and failed to factor into the scoresheet over the first four games of the campaign. However, Haydar has pieced together back-to-back two-point games (One goal, one assist each night) over the Wolves last two games; both victories. Overall, Haydar has two goals and five assists over his last five games played, and like Sgarbossa, has a knack for being effective when passing and shooting the puck.

Catch all of the action live on AM 1220 WHKW and MY 43 THE BLOCK WUAB with Doug Plagens on the play-by-play and Monsters Assistant Coach and Cleveland hockey great Jock Callander providing color analysis.
