Monsters, Americans Battle in Buffalo

MATCHUP
Unbeaten-in-regulation in four-straight games, the Lake Erie Monsters (15-13-2-1) will try to bounce back in a rematch against the Rochester Americans (14-11-2-1) tonight at 7:05 PM at First Niagara Center in Buffalo. Wednesday night, the two North Division foes met in Rochester, and the Americans won by a 7-6 score in overtime. Both games this season between the two clubs have been decided by 7-6 scores and Rochester has won each meeting.

LAST TIME OUT
After two periods on Wednesday, the Monsters led by a 5-3 score. Rochester scored three third period goals to force overtime, and the Amerks Marcus Foligno netted the game-winner at 2:40 of the extra frame. For the Monsters, David van der Gulik scored twice including a shorthanded goal; Andrew Agozzino, Paul Carey and Dean Strong each had two assists; and Karl Stollery had a goal and an assist in the overtime loss. The Monsters are 3-0-1-0 over their last four contests.

WHO TO WATCH: MONSTERS
van der Gulik is the reigning AHL Player of the Week, and after two goals Wednesday, he has a Monsters season-best five-game goal scoring streak. With six goals over his last five games, van der Gulik stands a chance to tie Brian Willsie's team record of goals in six straight games if he's able to score on Friday in Buffalo. van der Gulik has 10 points over his last five games. Agozzino also has a Monsters season-best six-game point streak, and has three consecutive two-point games. On the season, Agozzino has six multi-point games.

WHO TO WATCH: AMERICANS
Defenseman T.J. Brennan had a goal and four assists for Rochester on Wednesday, and has six points in two games against the Monsters this season. He often starts plays inside the Americans zone, and quickly moves down the ice and becomes a focal point for the offense. The defenseman is on a point-per-game pace through 28 games, and enters Friday second among AHL defensemen in points.
