Playing their first game on the road in three weeks, the Monsters fell, 2-1, in Rochester on Friday.  It was the first regular season meeting between the two teams. Lake Erie played their last six at home, and will return to Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday to play the next four there as well.

Although the Monsters outshot the Americans, 11-4, in the opening period, neither team was able to find the back of the net.  The teams dueled to a scoreless tie heading into the first intermission.

The tides would turn in the second period, as the host Americans rattled off 13 shots on goal, compared to seven from the Monsters.  Two of Rochester's attempts counted, giving the home team a 2-0 advantage after two periods.

Dan Collins got the scoring started, getting one by Monsters netminder Jason Bacashihua at 5:05 of the middle frame.  He was assisted by Michael Duco and Andrew Sweetland. 

It would only be five minutes later when Rochester would strike again, this time on the power play.  Michal Repik scored at the 10:33 mark, helped by Stefan Meyer and Keaton Ellerby. 

Lake Erie's defense held off the Americans the rest of the period, going into the break down 2-0. 

It looked as though the game would end with the 2-0 score, as Rochester goalie Chris Beckford-Tseu held off Lake Erie through much of the third.  However, Chris Mueller finally got the Monsters on the board at the 15:12 point of the third period, his first goal as a professional.  Mark McCutcheon and Ray Macias were credited with the assists.  It was McCutcheon's first point of the season with the Monsters.

Lake Erie eventually pulled Bacashihua in favor of a sixth attacker with just over a minute left, but were not able to capitalize, leaving Rochester with the 2-1 loss. The Monsters once again outshot the Americans in the period, 10-7.

Bacashihua finished the night with 22 saves on 24 shots faced, while Beckford-Tseu rejected 27 of the 28 shots he saw.

The game was fairly penalty-free, as Lake Erie had only three infractions for six minutes, and Rochester registered four for eight.

The Monsters immediately return home to complete a weekend back-to-back, hosting the Toronto Marlies at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday.
