Just 24 hours after falling in a close 1-0 contest to the Moose on Friday, the Monsters found themselves down by two goals in the second period in Manitoba on Saturday. Unlike the night before, however, Lake Erie's offense would take over on Saturday, rattling off three straight goals to pull out a
3-2 come-from-behind win. Phil Dupuis scored the game-winner and also assisted on the second goal of the night. Lake Erie is now 10-17-0-3.
Manitoba jumped out to an early lead after scoring two goals in a seven-minute span in the first period. Alexandre Bolduc put the host Moose on the board first with his shorthanded goal at the 9:04 mark of the opening frame. Lawrence Nycholat and Guillaume Desbiens assisted on the score.
Desbiens took matters into his own hands later in the period, scoring unassisted at 16:41. The teams headed into the first intermission with Manitoba leading, 2-0.
It would be almost 12 minutes into the second period, but once Lake Erie scored, they didn't stop. Ryan Stoa's power play goal at the 11:41 mark would be the first of three unanswered for the Monsters. Stoa was assisted by T.J. Hensick and Darren Haydar.
Five minutes later captain Brian Willsie knotted the game at 2 with his power play goal at 16:50. Dupuis and fellow French Canadian Cedric McNicoll picked up the helpers.
The game looked destined for overtime as the scored still remained tied with less than five minutes to play, but Dupuis had other plans for his Monsters team.
With 4:25 left in regulation, Dupuis scored the game-winner unassisted. Lake Erie's defense was able to hold Manitoba at bay for the last few minutes to ensure the 3-2 win.
Tyler Weiman recorded 29 saves in the win, while Moose netminder Cory Schneider had 39 stops on 42 Monsters shots.
Lake Erie will be back on the ice on Tuesday when they host the Rochester Americans at Quicken Loans Arena.
