Lake Erie Monsters veteran right wing Darren Haydar has been named the Reebok/AHL Player of the Week for the week ending December 27th, it was announced by the American Hockey League on Monday.

In three games last week, Haydar led the Monsters to three consecutive wins, recording eight points (5G, 3A) and being named first star of the game in two of those three contests. Haydar has recorded points in nine of the past 11 games, posting 17 points (8G, 9A) in that span.

In Tuesday’s win against Rochester, Haydar registered a goal and an assist, including the game-winner, in a 6-2 win against the Americans. Saturday night, in the first game of a home-and-home series against Toronto, Haydar recorded three points (2G, 1A) in Lake Erie’s 4-2 victory, including scoring two goals in the first 2:56 of the game. For his strong effort, Haydar was named first star of the game. On Sunday, Haydar completed the week by recording another three-point effort (2G, 1A) in the Monsters 7-0 blowout win at Toronto and was again named first star of the game.

Haydar leads the Monsters in points (31), goals (15), assists (16), power play points (17), power play goals (9), power play assists (8), game-winning goals (3), is tied for the lead with two shorthanded points (1G, 1A) and leads the team with nine multi-point games.

Haydar is tied for third in the AHL with 15 goals and tied for ninth with 31 points in 32 games for Lake Erie this season, including 17 points in his last 11 contests. An eighth-year pro from Milton, Ont., Haydar is the AHL’s career scoring leader among active players with 216 goals and 351 assists for 567 points in 528 games. The two-time Calder Cup champion and former league MVP and scoring champion is in his first season with the Monsters after signing as a free agent with Colorado on July 6, 2009.
