A Monster of a Road TripTweet10/15/2010 1:26 PM
The Lake Erie Monsters will continue a seven-game road swing on Saturday, October 16th, when they travel to Oklahoma City for their first-ever meeting with the Barons.
Lake Erie’s seven consecutive games away from Quicken Loans Arena will tie their longest road trip of the season (Jan. 7-16, 2011). The Monsters are one game into the trip (2-1 SOW in Syracuse, Oct. 9) and they will visit four cities for six games in the next nine days. The following itinerary maps the team's travel:
October 15 - Fly to Oklahoma City October 16 - @ Oklahoma City Barons, 8:05 p.m.
October 17 - Fly to San Antonio; 5:30 p.m. game against Rampage
October 18 - Fly to Oklahoma City
October 19 - @ Oklahoma City Barons, 8:05 p.m. October 20 - Fly to San Antonio; 8:00 p.m. game against Rampage; drive to Austin
October 22 - @ Texas Stars, 8:30 p.m.
October 23 - Drive to Houston October 24 - @ Houston Aeros, 5:05 p.m.
October 25 - Fly to Cleveland During the offseason, Oklahoma City became the primary affiliate of the Edmonton Oilers. Making their AHL debut this season, the Barons are lead by head coach Todd Nelson.
The Barons have opened the season with an 0-2-0-0 mark, while Lake Erie has started off with a 2-0-0-0 record for the second time in four years (2008-09). If the Monsters win Saturday, they will be off to their first 3-0-0-0 start in franchise history. If they force overtime or a shootout, they will still be awarded a point – giving them five in their first three games – which would also mark their best start ever.
To date, the Monsters are one of four AHL teams (Portland, Wilkes-Barre Scranton, Manitoba) to boast a 2-0-0-0 record heading into this weekend.
Of the AHL teams who have only played one game on home ice, the Monsters have the highest attendance record to date, as they welcomed 12,524 fans to opening night on October 8th. |
