High School Hockey at The Q this Weekend

Just one week after capturing the Division I State Championship in high school football, the St. Edward Eagles will hit the ice for Cleveland’s biggest high school sports rivalry, as they meet the St. Ignatius Wildcats for a 4:30 p.m. faceoff at Quicken Loans Arena on Saturday.

The game will take place three hours before the Monsters take on the Toronto Marlies. Fans who purchase tickets to the Lake Erie-Toronto game will also be admitted to the St. Edward-St. Ignatius game.

Both the Eagles and Wildcats are poised for a successful season in the Greater Cleveland High School Hockey League’s (GCHSL) Red North Division.

St. Edward has started the 2010-11 season with a 2-0 record after beating Walsh Jesuit on December 3rd and then posting a 2-1 overtime win over Strongsville the next night. The Eagles will hit the road to take on Gilmour on Wednesday night before coming to The Q on Saturday to play St. Ignatius.

The Wildcats have played in just one league game this season and were successful in a 4-1 win over Lake Catholic on December 1st. St. Ignatius will begin the weekend with a home game against Walsh Jesuit on Friday night.

The Eagles have dropped their last three meetings against St. Ignatius, but they’ve managed to win when the time is right. The Eagles beat the Wildcats in the 2008 and 2009 District rounds of the State Playoffs. St. Ignatius holds the upper hand at The Q by winning the last three games, including two shut outs against St. Edward.

Doors at the Northeast Entrance of Quicken Loans Arena (corner of Huron Road and East 6th Street) will open at 4:00pm. Seating for the St. Edward vs. St. Ignatius game will be General Admission. All lower bowl seating will be open for high school hockey, except Club seating on the West side of the arena (C107, C108, C109, C110). West club seating will be open when the doors open for the Monsters game starting at 6:30 p.m.
