Trip Begins with Shutout Loss

Despite outshooting the Admirals 31-21, including 17-7 in the second period, the Lake Erie Monsters were shut out in Milwaukee, 3-0, on Friday night. The loss began a three-game/three-night road trip for the Monsters, which will take them to Rockford on Saturday night and Peoria on Sunday afternoon. It was the fourth shutout suffered by the Monsters so far this season.

With the loss, Lake Erie is now 13-12-2-4 overall and slips to fifth place in the North Division.

The teams kept even pace with each other over the first 20 minutes, both putting up seven shots on goal. Milwaukee was able to get the advantage, however, scoring 7:30 into the period when Ryan Thang scored unassisted. The period would eventually end with the Admirals ahead 1-0.

Lake Erie's offense dominated in the middle frame, as the Monsters outshot the Admirals 17-7 in the second period. Nonetheless, it would be Milwaukee that would again gain the advantage on the scoreboard, as Mark Santorelli's goal at 5:31 would put the home team up 2-0. Linus Klassen and Scott Ford assisted. The Monsters were unable to answer, finishing the second down by two.

The third period was a replica of the first, with the two teams registering seven shots apiece and again with Milwaukee finding a way to light the lamp. Former Monsters player Jamie Lundmark sealed the win for the Admirals with his power play goal at the 11:33 mark, assisted by Aaron Johnson and Andreas Thuresson.

Lake Erie was able to hold former Monster Chris Mueller off the scoreboard on Friday, after he recorded five points (4G, 1A) in a pair of back-to-back Admiral wins over Lake Erie in Cleveland in November, including another Milwaukee shutout.

Monsters goalie Jason Bacashihua posted 18 saves on 21 shots faced in the loss. Admirals netminder Jeremy Smith stopped all 31 Lake Erie shots he faced in recording the shutout win.

The Monsters will now travel to Rockford for an 8:05 p.m. (ET) game.
