2010-11 Midyear Review...John Grahame

Standing just past the midpoint of the season, veteran goaltender John Grahame has emerged as a leader in Lake Erie's youthful lineup.

An NHL veteran of 224 games, Grahame has spent parts of nine seasons on the big stage, appearing in games with the Boston Bruins, Tampa Bay Lightning and Carolina Hurricanes.

During his second of three seasons with Tampa Bay, Grahame earned a Stanley Cup ring when the Lightning defeated the Calgary Flames in a dramatic seven-game series in the final round of the 2004 Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Grahame, 35, was recalled by parent club Colorado on October 27th, 2010, but did not appear in a game with the Avalanche before returning to Lake Erie several weeks later.

In his second game after rejoining the Monsters, Grahame made 33 saves in Lake Erie’s 6-3 win over the Chicago Wolves.

Grahame has been Lake Erie’s defensive catalyst in the team’s recent success. By stringing together five straight wins from January 14th-January 20th, he set a season high for consecutive wins among Lake Erie goaltenders.

This season Grahame is 11-8-2 with a 2.24 GAA and a .917 save percentage, good for ninth in the league.

He has won six of his last seven games, and combined with his statistics from last season, his numbers have moved into franchise-leading territory. Grahame’s 36 games played and 15 wins both rank third all-time among Lake Erie goaltenders.

2010-11 Season Highlights:

October 9th: Recorded 17 saves in Lake Erie’s first road win of the season, a 2-1 shootout victory over Syracuse.

December 7th: Registered 35 saves, a personal best for this season, in a 3-2 shootout loss in Abbotsford.

January 1st: Registered 30 saves in his first shutout of the season, a 3-0 triumph over the North Division-leading Hamilton Bulldogs.

January 14th-January 20th: Posted five straight wins in Lake Erie’s season-high five-game winning streak.
