Monsters Come Up Short Before Road TripTweet11/30/2011 9:57 PM
After a scoreless first period, Cody Almond pushed a puck deep into Monsters territory on the right wing, cut to the bottom of the circle, and banked a tight-angle shot off the skate of Monsters goalie Trevor Cann to give the Aeros a 1-0 lead at 7:42 of the second. That would be the only score of the first 40 minutes. Less than a minute into the third period, Chad Rau tapped in a rebound for the Aeros to extend Houston's lead to 2-0. Jarod Palmer was credited with the assist. Later in the third period at 14:45, Greg Mauldin netted his fourth goal of the season when he found a loose puck near the left goal post behind Houston goalie Matt Hackett. Mauldin, who had hit the crossbar twice earlier in the game, punched the puck to the back of the net to pull the Monsters to within a goal, but the Monsters were unable to manage any further scoring. Cann is 4-8-0 following the loss; he turned away 25 of 27 Houston shots. Hackett is 9-3-3 after stopping 22 of 23 Monsters shots. The Monsters are in action on the road Friday night against the Rockford IceHogs for the first time this season. All the action from Rockford can be heard live on AM 1220 WHKW.
