The Lake Erie Monsters and WKNR announced today that ESPN 850 WKNR will be the radio home of Monsters games. The announcement was made by Monsters President Kerry Bubolz and Good Karma Broadcasting President Craig Karmazin. WKNR is part of the Good Karma Broadcasting family of stations.

“Monsters hockey is just 46 days away from dropping the puck on opening night at The Q and we’re very pleased to announce our partnership with WKNR for our radio game broadcasts. We can tell already that WKNR is going to do a great job as our flagship station,” stated Bubolz.

“ESPN 850 WKNR is proud to be the home of the Monsters. We jumped at the opportunity to partner with a first class organization with a proven track record of success in the market that already has created strong momentum for the team. The hockey fans of Northeast Ohio are extremely passionate and we are excited to bring professional hockey to them,” stated Karmazin.

In other broadcast news, the Monsters announced that John Michael will be the team’s broadcast voice handling the play-by-play / analyst duties for radio and TV game broadcasts. The Monsters will announce details of their TV game broadcast schedule soon.

“We’re very excited to have John Michael join the team. We believe John is one of the best hockey announcers in all of pro hockey and we think our listeners on WKNR will agree. John will bring the Monsters to life on the radio in a major league way,” noted Bubolz.

Michael spent the prior two seasons as the play-by-play voice of the AHL’s Springfield Falcons (Tampa Bay Lightning) and was the 2005 East Coast Hockey League (ECHL) Broadcaster of the Year (Johnstown Chiefs). He holds undergraduate, graduate and law degrees from the University of Notre Dame.

“I feel truly privileged to have been named the voice of the Monsters in the team’s inaugural season. It is going to be a terrific feeling to be calling games for the passionate and knowledgeable fans in this great city of Cleveland,” added Michael.

The Monsters, the AHL affiliate of the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche, will take the ice for their inaugural game on October 6th at Quicken Loans Arena. Full season tickets and partial season ticket plans are on sale now, with individual game tickets going on sale September 8th. Tickets and plans start at just $10 per game.
