Monsters Shutout in Manitoba

The shoe was on the other foot for Tyler Weiman on Monday night.

After recording his AHL-best sixth shutout on Friday, the Monsters netminder found himself on the other side of a shutout in Manitoba on Monday.  The Moose blanked Lake Erie, 5-0, in the first of back-to-back games between the teams. It was the sixth time the Monsters have been shutout this season.

The Monsters were coming off two straight wins over the weekend: the 3-0 shutout in Syracuse on Friday, followed by a 3-1 win over Hamilton in Cleveland on Saturday.  Weiman was in goal for both victories. The team has yet to win three straight games this season.

Manitoba did all of their damage in the first two quarters.  Jason Krog got the scoring started with his power play goal just 4:52 into the game, assisted by Josh Soares and Shaun Heshka.

Greg Rallo increased the Moose lead with his goal less than two minutes later at the 6:47 mark.  Guillaume Desbiens and Mike Keane were credited with the assists.

Manitoba maintained their 2-0 lead into the first intermission, and quickly added to it at the start of the second period.

Soares scored for himself just 41 seconds into the middle frame, helped by Alexandre Bolduc and Dylan Yeo.

A few minutes later, the Moose once again buffered their advantage, going up 4-0 on Nolan Baumgartner's shorthanded goal at 5:23.  Desbiens and Jason Jaffray assisted on the play.

Keane finished the scoring for Manitoba at 13:54 of the second period.  His goal, assisted by Desbiens and Heshka, gave the Moose the 5-0 decision.

Following Keane's goal, and after allowing five goals on 21 shots in just under 34 minutes, Weiman was replaced by Jason Bacashihua. The second Lake Erie netminder rejected all 13 shots he faced during the remainder of the game.

The Monsters will look to regroup and seek revenge against the Moose when the teams face again on Tuesday.
