The Lake Erie Monsters will play the third game of their nine game road trip tonight when they face-off against the white hot Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins at 7:05 p.m. at Wachovia Arena at Casey Plaza. The Penguins are currently riding a five game winning streak and have gone 8-2 in their past 10 games. With their 32-16-1-2 record, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton checks in at second place in the Eastern Conference with 67 points.

The Penguins have also received a boost having defenseman Alex Goligoski called back from their parent club, the Pittsburgh Penguins. Prior to being recalled, Goligoski led all NHL rookie defensemen in scoring with six goals, 14 assists and 20 points. Last year, in 70 games with the Penguins, Goligoski put up 38 points (10G, 28A), while adding 28 points (4G, 24A) in 23 postseason games with the Penguins.

The game is the second and final meeting of the regular season between the clubs, as the Monsters beat the Penguins, 4-2, at Quicken Loans Arena on November 23rd. In the game, Lake Erie received scoring from four different sources, as Phil Dupuis, Rob Drummond, Aaron MacKenzie and Chris Durno scored four unanswered goals after the Penguins jumped out to a 2-0 lead on first period tallies by Jeff Taffe and Chris Minard. Goaltender Tyler Weiman picked up the win for the Monsters, making 30 saves on 32 shots while Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goalie Adam Berkhoel turned away 11 of Lake Erie’s 15 shots.

After the game, Lake Erie will travel northeast to New England to play the Hartford Wolf Pack on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and Manchester Monarchs at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.
