What's on Tap

The Lake Erie Monsters travel to the home state of defenseman Nigel Williams, Illinois, tonight to play the Quad City Flames for the second and final contest between the two teams this year. In the first game of the season between the Flames and Monsters, goaltender Tyler Weiman recorded his fifth shutout of the season en route to a 3-0 Lake Erie win on January 14th at Quicken Loans Arena. Center Nathan Smith registered the first two goals of the game and Williams capped off the scoring in the middle of the second period with his third goal of the season.

Tonight’s matchup is one of high importance, as the Monsters trail the Flames by just two points in the Western Conference standings. The game will be a tough test for the Monsters, as they are playing Quad City while the Flames are riding a four-game winning streak, which includes a three-game undefeated streak on home ice. In the past four games, the Flames have has doubled up their opponents on the scoreboard, racking up 16 goals and allowing eight in those games.

After Wednesday’s game, the Monsters will finish up their nine game road trip with a game in Rockford on Friday and Grand Rapids on Saturday. Lake Erie will return to The Q on Wednesday, February 25th for a 7:00 p.m. contest against the Syracuse Crunch.
