Last-Minute Loss in RochesterTweet02/13/2010 9:29 PM
Lake Erie started out fast, as Randy Rowe tallied the game’s first goal 2:34 in on the power play. The tally was Rowe’s fourth of the season and was assisted by Tom Preissing and Brett Skinner. Michal Repik answered for the Americans at the midway point of the first, tying the game at one. A power play marker, Repik’s goal was assisted by Chris Taylor and Evgeny Dadonov and sent the teams into the second period knotted at one. A new period yielded the same result as Rowe opened the scoring, notching his second of the game just two minutes into the second period on another power play. Darren Haydar, who was recalled from Colorado Saturday, recorded an assist along with Skinner on the goal. The pair of goals marked Rowe’s fourth multi-point game of the season and the native of Burford, Ontario, is currently on a six-game point streak and has put up 11 points (5G, 6A) in that span. Adding two assists, Skinner put up his fifth multi-point game of the season. Although the Monsters opened the scoring in the beginning stages of the second, the rest of the middle frame would go by without a score and Lake Erie would head into the third with a 2-1 lead. Rochester’s Jamie Johnson pulled the Americans even midway through regulation’s final frame, netting his 21st goal of the season at the 10:35 mark. Clay Wilson and Michael Caruso recorded the assists. Just as the Monsters saw overtime on the horizon, Daniel Steiner won the game for the Americans, netting his sixth of the season with just a minute left in regulation. Jason Garrison and Michael Duco picked up the assists on the game-winning goal. Tyler Weiman made 29 saves on 30 shots and Billy Sauer made six saves on eight shots for the Monsters while Tyler Plante turned away 16 of 18 shots from the Monsters. Lake Erie returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Syracuse to face the Crunch in their first non-Conference game of the season at 7:30 p.m. After Friday, the Monsters wrap up the weekend with a 7:00 p.m. game against the Hershey Bears at the Giant Center. |
