All Monsters in Win over TorontoTweet10/30/2010 5:00 PM
It was the middle of three games in three days for Lake Erie, having lost to the Manitoba Moose in Cleveland on Friday night, and returning to Cleveland on Sunday to face the Moose again. The Monsters improve to 4-5-0-1 with the win. Just like on Friday night, both teams on Saturday played to a scoreless tie in the first period before unleashing the scoring in the second. Nazem Kadri put Toronto on the board first, scoring 2:39 into the second period. He was assisted by Justin Hodgman and Matt Lashoff. The Monsters responded quickly, evening the score on Justin Mercier's second goal of the year at 5:20. Joel Chouinard and Mike Carman assisted. For Chouinard, it was his second assist in just his second game with the team. Seven minutes later, Lake Erie took the lead and would not look back. Ben Walter notched his second of the season at 12:18. Julian Talbot and Greg Mauldin were credited with the helpers. It was Walter's fourth straight game with a point, while Talbot has registered a point in three of the last four. Mauldin has now recorded points in five consecutive games and in eight of Lake Erie's 10 this season. The Monsters finished the second period with a 2-1 advantage and it would take more than a full period before they would add to that. At the 14:35 mark of the third session, Zach Cohen cushioned the Lake Erie lead to two goals with his second of the season. That came on the heels of his first goal of the year the night before against Manitoba. Kevin Montgomery and Mark Olver assisted. Montgomery has recorded an assist in back-to-back games, while Olver has posted points in four of his five games with Lake Erie. Talbot sealed the victory with an empty-netter at 18:44, his third marker of the season. Jason Bacashihua picked up the win in goal for the Monsters, registering 17 saves on the 18 shots he faced. Across the ice, his Toronto counterpart James Reimer had 29 saves on 32 shots. |
