Monsters Take 5-1 Win Over HamiltonTweet11/10/2010 12:46 PM
Four Monsters provided multi-point outings, and Lake Erie’s four-goal margin of victory marks its largest of the season. Goaltender Jason Bacashihua recorded 27 saves for his fourth win of the campaign, improving his overall record to 4-3-2. Hamilton (7-2-1-1) entered the game with just one regulation loss on season, while Lake Erie's win pushed its record to 6-5-1-2 overall and 3-1-1-1 on home ice. After a scoreless first period, the Bulldogs took a 1-0 lead at 5:56 of the middle frame. David Desharnais picked up a loose puck behind the net and scored on a wraparound to put Hamilton on the board. Lake Erie answered at 7:12 of the period, when Ray Macias put a wrist shot into the top right corner of the net for his second goal of the season. On the goal, Mark Olver picked up his fourth assist in three games, while Ryan Stoa notched his third in as many outings. The Monsters took a 2-1 lead when they capitalized on a Hamilton line change to set up a two-on-two rush. Julian Talbot took a pass from Ben Walter and broke into the Hamilton zone to set up Greg Mauldin, who notched his team-leading fifth goal of the season. Lake Erie started the third period with a power play and capitalized just 43 second into the frame. After working the puck around the perimeter of the offensive zone, Brandon Rogers fed Walter with a quick one-timer to put the Monsters up 3-1. Mauldin assisted for his second point of the game, while Rogers also assisted for his first point with Lake Erie. At 10:10 of the third period, Luke Walker scored his first goal as a Monsters with a wrist shot from the point, increasing Lake Erie’s lead to a 4-1 count. Macias assisted for his second point of the day, and Patrick Bordeleau registered an assist for his second in as many games. Just 31 seconds later, Walter gathered a rebound at the top of the goal crease and buried a wrist shot to put the Monsters up 5-1. By scoring his second goal and third point of the game, Walter took first star honors. Rogers picked up an assist for his second of the day, while Mauldin also assisted for his third point of the night. Walter (2G, 1A) and Mauldin (1G, 2A) became the first Lake Erie players to record three-point games this season. Walter has registered 10 points (5G, 5A) in his last eight games, and has notched two multi-point outings this season. Mauldin has notched nine points (4G, 5A) in his last nine outings, and leads the Monsters with 12 points (5G, 7A) this season. Wednesday marked Mauldin's first multi-point game of the campaign. Robert Mayer stopped 20 of 25 shots in net for Hamilton. The Monsters will host the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:30 p.m. on Friday night at Quicken Loans Arena. Three Stars: 1.
