Lake Erie's three-in-three weekend ended on Sunday the same way it began on Friday: with a loss. The Monsters dropped a 5-1 decision in Oklahoma City Sunday night, the four-goal deficit matching a season high. The three power play goals allowed in the game also tied for a season high.

The Monsters went 1-2 on their weekend swing through the Southwest, posting a 3-0 shutout loss in Houston on Friday and a 3-1 win at Texas on Saturday. This weekend's three-game trek kicked off a season-long seven-game road trip for Lake Erie, which will continue in Hamilton on Wednesday.

Lake Erie is now 16-18-3-4 overall, including 6-13-1-2 on the road.

Colin McDonald started the scoring for the night with a power play marker at 10:54 of the first period. Alexandre Giroux and Brad Moran assisted.

The Barons converted again on the man advantage less than four minutes later, this time off the stick of Giroux himself. The goal at 14:11 of the first was assisted by Bryan Helmer and Taylor Chorney, giving Oklahoma City a 2-0 lead.

Ryan Stoa quickly cut the Barons lead in half with his goal at 14:48, assisted by Julian Talbot and Matt Ford. Stoa's goal was his second in as many games and fifth in the last eight.

Oklahoma City led the Monsters in shots in the first period, 13-9, and on the scoreboard, 2-1.

With only nine combined shots in the second period (OKC - 6; LEM - 3), there was only one goal scored in the second 20-minute frame of the game. Philippe Cornet increased the Barons lead back to two goals when he lit the lamp at the 9:28 mark. Milan Kytner and Teemu Hartikainen were credited with the assists.

The period would end with the home Barons ahead 3-1.

McDonald would score his second power play goal of the game just 3:45 into the third period, giving Oklahoma City a 4-1 advantage. Moran and Giroux recorded the helpers on the goal.

Despite the Monsters outshooting the Barons 9-5 in the frame, Oklahoma City would seal their win with an empty-netter at 16:38. Giroux scored off an assist from Andrew Lord, solidifying the final 5-1 scoresheet.

John Grahame recorded 19 saves on 23 shots in net for Lake Erie. Barons netminder Jeff Drouin-Deslauriers stopped 20 of 21 shots.

Lake Erie will resume play in Hamilton on Wednesday.
