Tonight the Lake Erie Monsters will play game two of a five-game homestand by hosting the Rochester Americans at Quicken Loans Arena. The Monsters are 3-1-0-0 against the Amerks this season, including two wins in Rochester last weekend. Lake Erie 11-5-2-2 on home ice.
Last Time We Met When these two teams met on January 16th, Mark Olver opened the scoring with an unassisted tally at 2:57 of the first period – the earliest the Monsters have scored in a game this season. Justin Mercier notched an unassisted, shorthanded tally at 8:28 of the first, before Harrison Reed scored his first of the season 2:32 of the second period. Rochester made the score 3-1 at 3:46 of the middle frame but Ben Walter answered with his 13th goal of the season at the 5:51 mark. The Amerks rattled off three straight, before Olver scored his second of the game midway through the third off an assist from David Van der Gulik. Patrick Rissmiller scored an empty-net tally with 21 seconds remaining to finalize a 6-4 game. Six goals in a single game by Lake Erie ties a season high (Dec. 3 vs. Chicago, 6-3 W). John Grahame stopped 20 of 24 shots, marking his third win in as many nights. Home Sweet Home The Monsters are 11-5-2-2 on home ice. Setting Franchise Marks Ray Macias’ 161 games played with Lake Erie is the most of any Monster in franchise history. Patrick Bordeleau’s 212 penalty minutes ranks second among all-time leaders, while Ryan Stoa’s 16 power play goals over the course of the last two seasons ranks first.
