Belle Having Immediate Impact on LEM

Lake Erie’s newest defenseman, Shawn Belle, has had an immediate impact on the Monsters since joining the team at the NHL trade deadline on February 28th. Belle was acquired from the Edmonton Oilers organization in exchange for Kevin Montgomery.

Earlier this season, Belle totaled 20 points (3G, 17A) in 39 games with the Oklahoma City Barons, Edmonton’s primary affiliate.

The Monsters have won three of their four games since their defense has been bolstered by the 6-3, 232-lb blue liner.

In Lake Erie’s 4-2 win over Hamilton on March 11th, Belle assisted Greg Mauldin’s game-winning tally, before netting his first goal as a Monster in a 3-2 victory over Toronto the next night.

Belle was originally selected by the St. Louis Blues in the first round (30th overall) of the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Since then, he has made NHL appearances with the Minnesota Wild and Montreal Canadiens, before playing five games with the Edmonton Oilers earlier this season.

Broadcaster Ben Holden recently sat down with Belle to discuss his thoughts on joining the Monsters.
