With four games left in the Lake Erie Monsters regular season, and all four taking place at home in Quicken Loans Arena, the Monsters are fighting with everything they have to secure a spot in the playoffs.

In pressure situations like these, players look to experience, and David van der Gulik, who played in all seven playoff games last season, is familiar with what it takes to win.

After having spent three seasons in the NHL with the Colorado Avalanche, David van der Gulik is back with the Lake Erie Monsters after clearing waivers.

Remaining a key member of the Monsters offense this season, Vandy, as fans affectionately call him, has contributed 10 goals and 15 assists for 25 points in 36 games.

Seeing some of this best performances against the Toronto Marlies, van der Gulik  has recorded six points for the Monsters, in seven out of the 10 match-ups between the two teams.

Despite his time up with the NHL and facing an injury early in the season, van der Gulik has been a force on the ice; displaying a real sense of leadership on the ice and just playing down to the bone hard-nose hockey.

During the games, Van der Gulik sticks out to fans, as he is revered for his aggressive style of play. He can be seen racing for the puck in the attacking zone and always working hard to win the battles along the boards to give the Monsters second chance plays.
