Mitch Love and J.D. Corbin came to talk about one thing: respect. Ok, and maybe a little hockey while they were at it.

The Lake Erie Monsters made a stop on the "Monsters Respect Tour," presented by Wal-Mart, on Wednesday.  The mission of the tour is to get students thinking about how they should treat the people around them, including their peers, teachers, and families.

More than 200 third, fourth and fifth graders from Lakewood’s Harrison Elementary School were thrilled when the Monsters in-arena host Olivier Sedra started off the event by talking about the importance of having respect for yourself. He explained that it isn’t until you do so  that you can then have respect for others.

This led to an introduction of Monsters play-by-play broadcaster John Michael, who addressed why it is important to set goals. His main point was that you have to set goals and respect the goals that you have for yourself, so that you can be successful in everything that you do.

The main attraction of the event seemed to be the Monsters mascot Sullivan C. Goal...that is until Monsters left wing J.D. Corbin and defenseman Mitch Love made their star appearance.

The players held a question and answer session with the students, fielding questions ranging from ‘Is fourth grade hard?’ to ‘Is it hard to respect players on the opposing team?’ Corbin and Love explained how they ended up in the position they are in today. They stressed the importance of giving 110% in all that you do and making sure you strive to accomplish your goals.

As an end to a successful Respect Tour stop, Corbin and Love took time to give each of the students a Lake Erie Monsters cap as they exited the gym and even posed for pictures with some of the young, and quite excited, fans.
