After falling behind by a pair in the opening frame, the Lake Erie Monsters (24-20-2-5) were unable to complete a comeback, falling 3-1 on the road to the Chicago Wolves (24-16-4-2) Saturday evening before 11,112 fans at Allstate Arena in Rosemont, Illinois. Paul Carey scored the lone goal for the Monsters. Michael Davies scored the first goal for Chicago on a wrist shot from the left circle to give Chicago a 1-0 lead, just moments after Chicago's penalty kill unit improved to 3-3 in the first period. Chicago scored first at 15:09 of the opening frame. Brad Hunt's point shot was tipped by Bill Sweatt in front of the net, sending the puck over the shoulder of Monsters netminder Kent Patterson, to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead on the power play at 16:55 of the first period. Paul Carey scored the only goal of the second period on a backhand wrap-around - his 12th of the season and ninth in his last 16 games - at 11:19. Brad Malone and Stefan Elliott assisted on the power play goal.
Guillaume Desbiens scored from a sharp angle at 12:35 of the third period to give Chicago a 3-1 lead, which would ultimately be the final score. Kent Patterson is 0-2-1 after the loss in net for the Monsters; he stopped 26 of 29 shots. Matt Climie stopped 29 of 30 shots for Chicago; he is 12-13-1, and 5-0-0 against the Monsters since the start of last season. The Monsters are back in action in Rockford Sunday at 6:05 PM Eastern, with all the action airing live on AM 1220 WHKW. NOTES: The Monsters are 0-2-0-0 against Chicago this season, 14-11-1-2 on the road, and are now 0-4-0-3 in their last seven after the loss in Chicago...
