The Monsters were clicking on all cylinders on Saturday; the offense produced, the defense held strong, and the goaltending was flawless.  Lake Erie came into Syracuse on Saturday night and defeated the Crunch, 4-0.  It was the team's and Tyler Weiman's third shutout of the season, and was also the largest margin of victory of the year for the Monsters.

The contest was the middle of three games in three nights for the Monsters, but they looked anything but fatigued.
Both teams were kept in check through most of the first period until Marty Sertich put Lake Erie up on the scoreboard with his goal at 18:36.  He was assisted by Kyle Cumiskey and Tom Fritsche, who has consecutive games with a point for the third time this year.

It wouldn't be long before Sertich would strike again.  Just 5:25 into the second session, Sertich lit the lamp again, this time on a power play.  Phil Dupuis and Ray Macias were given the assists.  Sertich has now recorded points in five of the last six games (2G, 6A).

Lake Erie would add to their lead before the end of the second period behind the stick of captain Nathan Smith, who scored shorthanded at the 18:52 mark.  It was Smith's first goal since the second game of the season, and was the team's third shorthanded score of the year. Chris Mueller and Cumiskey helped on the goal. Mueller has now posted assists in the past four straight games, which ties Sertich and Macias for the longest assist streak of the season.  With Cumiskey's two assists in the game, he has produced four points in the last three games.

The Monsters held their 3-0 lead through two-thirds of the final frame, until Andrew Sarauer cushioned that, scoring at 14:11 of the third period, off an assist from Mike Vernace.  It was Sarauer's first goal as a professional.

The game was chock full of penalties, as was the case last year when the two teams met.  The 64 combined penalty minutes is the most in a game this year.  Syracuse's 37 PIM is the most by a Monsters opponent so far this season, while Lake Erie's 27 PIM on the night was just one short of a season high for the team.

Weiman turned away all 28 shots he faced on the way to recording his third perfect game of the year.  Syracuse goalies Dan LaCosta and Sebastian Dahm combined for 22 saves on 26 shots.

The Monsters travel to Hershey to face the Bears at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday.  The game will be televised on MY43 WUAB.
