After losing by four goals in Hartford on Friday, it looked optimistic for the Monsters in the first period in Manchester on Saturday.  Lake Erie raced out to a quick 2-0 lead midway through the opening frame, but it would not last long, as the host Monarchs went on to score six unanswered goals and take the 6-2 win.

Early in the first period Lake Erie's newest addition, Ryan Snowball, made a good impression on his new teammates by giving the Monsters a 1-0 lead at the 3:57 mark of the first. Codey Burki earned the lone assist on the goal.

Approximately five minutes later in the first, while killing a Chris Durno hooking penalty, Monsters left wing Tom Fritsche scored his team-leading third shorthanded point of the season. Fritsche's shorthanded goal at the 8:50 mark of the first stanza was his first shorthanded goal of the season and his second tally in as many nights. Matt Hendricks was credited with the only assist on the goal. 

After jumping out to a quick 2-0 lead, the Monarchs would score six unanswered goals, including three power play tallies, a number that ties a season high for the most the Monsters have allowed this year. The Monarchs received two goals and two assists from Teddy Purcell, who also notched  the game-winning goal.

Lake Erie will travel to Iowa to play the Chops for the sixth game of their nine game road trip. The Monsters are 0-2-1 this season against Iowa.
