Monsters Bitten By Wolves in ChicagoTweet04/08/2009 9:35 PM
The Lake Erie Monsters played their final road game of the 2008-09 season Wednesday night, dropping a 5-0 contest to the Chicago Wolves at Allstate Arena. The five-goal loss ties a season record for the largest margin of defeat the Monsters have suffered this season. The scoring started with Joe Motzko notching his team-leading 28th goal of the season at the 6:33 mark of the first period. Jordan LaVallee and Steve Martins recorded the assists on the goal. Motzko’s tally would be the only goal in the first 20 minutes of the game, giving the Wolves a one-goal lead heading into regulation’s middle frame. As it was in the first period, the Wolves would get the second period’s first score, with Andrew Kozek recording his first goal as a professional in just his third game in the AHL 2:22 into the second. Matt Anderson and Tyson Marsh picked up the assists on Kozek’s score. Although the next nine minutes would go scoreless, the Wolves would net two scores six minutes apart in the latter half of the second period to take a 4-0 lead into the final frame. Chicago’s third goal of the game, scored at the 11:22 mark of the second, was Grant Stevenson’s ninth, and registered on the man advantage. Brett Sterling and Arturs Kulda picked up the assists on Stevenson’s power play tally. Exactly six minutes later, Mike Hamilton put up his fourth goal of the season, pushing Chicago’s lead to four. Anderson would pick up the lone assist on the goal, his second of the game, giving the Wolves a 4-0 lead heading into the final 20 minutes. The Wolves continued their trend of scoring first in each period, as Kozek netted his second net goal of the game and his professional career 8:21 into the final frame. Anderson would register his third assist of the game and Kulda picked up his second helper on the night, pushing the Wolves lead to five. Chicago limited the Monsters to just five shots in the final frame, coming away with the 5-0 win. Wolves goalie Brent Krahn picked up the shutout, turning away all 17 Lake Erie shots on goal. Jason Bacashihua ended the night making 27 saves on 32 shots. The Monsters return to The Q for their last game of the season on Saturday night when they host the Manitoba Moose for Fan Appreciation Night at 7:30 p.m. |
