Defenseman Wes O’Neill

The 2008-09 season was one of many experiences for Monsters defenseman Wes O’Neill. With his hockey bag at his side, O’Neill traveled the continent playing the sport in all three cities of the Colorado Avalanche organization: Cleveland, Denver and Johnstown, Pennsylvania. The majority of O’Neill’s year (54 games) was spent with the Monsters, but the 6’4, 200-pound blueliner also appeared in six games with the Johnstown Chiefs of the ECHL in the beginning stages of the season.

A Notre Dame graduate, O’Neill’s season reached its peak when he made his NHL debut in late March. By season’s end, O’Neill had split 63 games between the Avalanche, Chiefs and Monsters.

Highlights:

• October 17th, 2008: Appeared in his first game with the Monsters.

• January 11th, 2009: Registered his first point of the season, an assist, in 3-0 win against Philadelphia.

• March 8th, 2009: Recorded the game-winning goal, his first of the season, in a 6-3 win against Hershey.

• March 27th, 2009: Appeared in first NHL game against Vancouver.
