What's on Tap
The Monsters close out the 2009 calendar year with a New Year’s Eve contest against the Rochester Americans at 5:00 p.m. Thursday at Quicken Loans Arena. Lake Erie is 8-5-1-1 all time against Rochester and hold a 2-1-0-0 record against the Americans in the 2009-10 regular season. The game is the fourth of eight regular season meetings between the teams this season and marks the second of four contests the Americans play at The Q in 2009-10.

If the Monsters hope to rebound from Tuesday’s 5-3 loss to Peoria, they’ll have to contain Rochester’s offense, which averages 3.32 goals per game and is the second best in the AHL. The Americans offense is aided by the team’s power play, as it converts at a 20 percent pace, and is the second best in the AHL.

Hosting the Americans also means taking on one of the league’s best. With a record of 22-10-2-0 and 46 points, the Americans are first in the North Division, first in the Western Conference and are third overall in the AHL. Lake Erie will also face a tough challenge in Rochester goalie Alexander Salak, who is second in the AHL with 16 wins, has a 0.927 save percentage and a 2.33 GAA.

After Thursday’s game, the next meeting between the clubs is slated for January 9th, when the Monsters travel to Blue Cross Arena at War Memorial. The Americans return to The Q two more times this season – February 3rd and March 24th.

The Monsters will begin 2010 on the road, as the team will travel to Hamilton on Saturday and Grand Rapids on Sunday for a pair of divisional contests. Lake Erie’s first home game of 2010 is set for Tuesday, January 5th, when they host the Milwaukee Admirals at 7:00 p.m.
