The Monsters at the AHL All-Star Game

The Lake Erie Monsters will be well represented at the 2010 Time Warner Cable AHL All-Star Classic to be held tonight, January 19th, at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland, Maine. Aside from center T.J. Hensick, who will suit up for the PlanetUSA All-Star Team, the Monsters will also be sending mascot Sullivan C. Goal, better known as “Sully,” and Nick Mullet of the Monsters famed trio, the Mullet Brothers, to the game.

For the second time in the past three years, Hensick will represent the Monsters at the All-Star game as the former University of Michigan standout lead the PlanetUSA All-Stars with four points (2G, 2A) in the 2008 AHL All-Star Classic in Binghamton, N.Y. In the 2008 game, Hensick became the first player in Monsters franchise history to be play in the AHL All-Star game, which also took place during the Monsters inaugural 2007-08 season.

Aside from leading the Monsters with 25 assists, 13 power play assists and currently placing second in team scoring with 31 points (6G, 21A) this season, Hensick is also Lake Erie’s franchise leader in points (92), assists (67) and is third in franchise history with 25 goals.

The only other Lake Erie Monsters to play in an AHL All-Star game were goaltender Tyler Weiman and defenseman Kyle Cumiskey, who both suited up for the Canadian AHL All-Stars in the 2009 All-Star Classic.

Sully and Nick Mullet will be at the All-Star Classic with Hensick, just in a different capacity. Instead of competing alongside Hensick, the duo will be participating in All-Star festivities, and helping with the All-Star Game.

The All-Star game will begin at 6:00 p.m. tonight.

Today, prior to the game, both Hensick and the rest of the All-Stars will be visiting the Barbara Bush Children’s Hospital in Portland and a school in the greater Portland area for the United Way’s “Let’s Go!” program, a program that promotes healthy lifestyle choices for children, youth and families in Portland.

FOX Sports Ohio will be running the game on tape delay on Wednesday, January 20th, at 11:00 p.m.
