After losing the first five of a six-game, nine-day road trip, the Lake Erie Monsters ended their Midwest excursion on a positive note on Sunday. Behind two Lake Erie third-period goals, the Monsters defeated the Aeros, 3-2, in Houston. The team is now 3-4-0-1 and will return home to host the Manitoba Moose on Friday, three weeks after their last contest at Quicken Loans Arena.

Ben Walter got the Monsters off to a good start, scoring his first goal of the season and as a Monster at 5:52 of the first period. He was assisted by Matt Ford and Ray Macias, who has recorded an assist in two of the last three games.

The Aeros evened the score 13 minutes later when Joel Broda lit the lamp at 18:20, assisted by Carson McMillan. The first period would close with the score tied 1-1.

It would be more than halfway through the second frame before the score would change again. Casey Wellman put the Aeros ahead with his goal 11:33 into the second. Jarod Palmer and Robbie Earl were credited with the assists. Houston took their 2-1 advantage into the second intermission.

Lake Erie wasted little time tying up the game, as Greg Mauldin scored his third of the year just :47 seconds into the third period, unassisted. Mauldin has recorded points in three straight games and in six of Lake Erie's eight games this season.

Less than two minutes later, Ford gave the Monsters back the lead when he notched his fourth of the year. Tom Zanoski registered the helper on the go-ahead goal at the 2:34 mark of the third, his first point of the season.

Although the Aeros outshot the Monsters, 10-6, in the third period, they were unable to find the back of the net, resulting in the 3-2 Lake Erie victory. It was the sixth of the Monsters eight games this season that has been decided by one goal.

John Grahame picked up the win in goal, recording 32 saves on 34 shots. Anton Khudobin posted 30 saves on the 33 shots he faced.
