Calls of the Game...Game 6

In this edition of Calls of the Game, Lake Erie broadcaster Ben Holden highlights the exciting action from Game 6 of the Calder Cup Championship’s North Division Semi-Finals. Despite a 3-1 loss which ties the series at three games apiece, Lake Erie had many quality scoring chances through their 29 shots in Game 6.

In the following clip, rookie center Mike Carman had an opportunity notch a shorthanded goal. Carman set a franchise record with six shorthanders during the regular season.

Ben Walter, who has provided the Monsters with timely offense during this series, nearly snapped a scoreless tie in the first period.

Goaltender John Grahame, who made his fourth start of the series, made some spectacular saves in Game 6, including the following stop late in the first period.

Still scoreless in the first period, defenseman Shawn Belle nearly game the Monsters a lead of this play in the offensive zone.

After the Monsters outshot Manitoba by a commanding 14-7 count in the opening period, they carried their momentum into the middle frame and took a 1-0 lead off Julian Talbot’s rocket at the 2:10 mark.

With the game tied at 1-1 in the middle frame, the Monsters nearly took a 2-1 lead when the top line of Walter, David van der Gulik and Greg Mauldin stormed the net with a flurry of shots.

Van der Gulik had another opportunity to give the Monsters a lead in the following chance.

Walter and van der Gulik continued their offensive zone pressure in the following clip.

With 12:24 remaining in regulation, Keith Seabrook scored to put Manitoba ahead 2-1.

In a three-on-one rush, Marco Rosa set up Sergei Shirokov with a goal that put the Moose up 3-1 at 17:02 of the third period.

The Monsters battled hard for the rest of the game but were unable to mount a comeback.
