Road Trip Ends with Overtime WinTweet01/15/2012 4:01 PM
Mark Olver's first goal of the season was the first of Sunday’s game, and did not come until the 1:44 mark of the second period. Following a flurry of Milwaukee scoring chances, Patrick Rissmiller sent a pass to Olver on the left wing to ignite the counterattack. Olver fired a wrist shot from the left circle off the goal post, and into the net to give the Monsters a 1-0 lead. David Liffiton also assisted on the goal. Luke Walker extended the Monsters lead to 2-0 when he fired a puck in from near the bottom of the right circle at 2:46 of the third period. Brad Malone and Cameron Gaunce assisted on Walker's fifth of the season. Milwaukee scored twice in the third to force overtime and eventually tie the game at 2-2. Kyle Wilson beat Coleman with a top-corner shot from the top of the goal crease to cut Lake Erie's lead in half, before Juuso Puustinen scored on a point shot from the power play with 1:19 remaining to send the game to the extra frame. With Milwaukee's Taylor Beck serving a tripping minor late in overtime, Jessiman received a pass from Tyson Barrie in the left circle, and one-timed the puck into the upper portion of the net to secure the 3-2 win for the Monsters. Coleman, playing his first game with the Monsters after signing with the team earlier in the week, is 1-0-0 after stopping 27 of 29 shots. Jeremy Smith stopped 22 of 25 in net for Milwaukee. The Monsters will hit the ice again on Thursday night at Quicken Loans Arena against the Milwaukee Admirals, with the puck dropping at 7:00 PM. Thursday's game is the first of three in three nights for the Monsters, who visit Grand Rapids on Friday before returning to The Q to host Oklahoma City on Saturday. NOTES: Jessiman has goals in back-to-back games... Walker has goals in two straight games... Gaunce has three assists in the Monsters last two games... Coleman's start ends Trevor Cann's streak of seven straight starts, the longest such streak for a Monsters goalie this season...
