The Lake Erie Monsters hosted the Milwaukee Admirals for a pair of games over the weekend, but fell in both for just their second and third regulation losses of the season on home ice. Former Monster Chris Mueller led the Admirals to a 4-0 victory on Friday and a 3-2 win on Saturday.

During Friday’s game, Milwaukee opened the scoring at 14:29 of the first period, when Mueller scored the eventual game-winner with a shorthanded breakaway tally.

The Ads went up 2-0 at 5:11 of the middle frame, when Aaron Johnson took a pass from Mueller and scored off a wrist shot from the point.

In the third period, former Monster Jamie Lundmark set up Matt Halischuk at 2:02 to put Milwaukee up 3-0.

Lake Erie pulled goaltender Jason Bacashihua in favor of an extra attacker, but Mueller tapped in an empty-netter to finish his three-point outing.

The 4-0 final came as just the second time this season Lake Erie has been shutout.

Bacashihua made 23 saves for Lake Erie, as he made his sixth start in seven games.

During Saturday’s matinee, the two teams traded goals twice, starting with Mueller’s tally just 5:59 into the contest.

Lake Erie’s Mike Carman answered at 16:17 of the first period, scoring a shorthanded goal off an assist from Justin Mercier. Carman’s shorthander came as Lake Erie’s third of the season.

Milwaukee battled back with a goal from Roman Josi at 5:49 of the second period, but Mercier answered at 8:26 of the third to mark his first multi-point game of the season. Carman also recorded his first multi-point game by picking up an assist on the goal.

Tied at two goals apiece in the finals minutes of regulation, Mueller scored another shorthanded game-winner by steeling the puck in the neutral zone and scoring on a breakaway with just 1:07 remaining in regulation.

Despite the loss, the Monsters outshot Milwaukee 27-20 in the contest.

Trevor Cann made 17 saves in his second start of the season for Lake Erie.

MONSTERFEST: 

Lake Erie is six games into an eight-game home stand – its longest of the season.

The Monsters have posted a 2-2-1-1 mark during this stretch, and a 3-3-1-1 record on home ice this season. Overall, Lake Erie is 6-7-1-2 through its first 16 games of the season.

On the Big Stage:

On Thursday, November 11th, forward Greg Mauldin was recalled by the Colorado Avalanche. The following night, he appeared in his first game with the parent club and scored the game-winning goal in shorthanded fashion, as the Avs took a 5-1 win over the Columbus Blue Jackets. The goal was Mauldin’s first in NHL, and he was assisted by former Monster, David Jones.
 
Next Up:

On Wednesday, November 17th, the Monsters will host the Grand Rapids Griffins for the second of this season’s eight meetings. The Monsters will look for revenge against their North Division rival, as they dropped a 4-3 decision to the Griffins in a seven-round shootout on November 7th.

The Griffins are coming off a weekend split with the Hamilton Bulldogs, who the Monsters beat 5-1 last Wednesday, November 10th. Grand Rapids fell 2-1 in Hamilton on Saturday, November 13th, but rebounded for a 2-1 win the next night.

The Griffins will enter the contest with an 8-4-0-3 record. Up front, Grand Rapids lead by Ilari Filppula, while young Brendan Smith leads their defense.
