The Lake Erie Monsters lost by one goal for the third straight game and the fourth time in the last six on Wednesday night. The team was shut out, 1-0, by the Heat in Abbotsford, following a 3-2 shootout loss there the night before. Wednesday's loss ended Lake Erie's franchise-high six-game point streak, as well as the team's eight-game North Division point streak.

Lake Erie is now 12-10-2-4 and drop to fourth place in the North.

The Heat outshot the Monsters 19-7 in the first period, but were not able to find the back of the net until the 17:05 mark when Matt Pelech scored off assists from Lance Bouma and Quintin Laing. Abbotsford took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission, in what would prove to be the end of the scoring for the night.

The Monsters turned the tables in the second period, outshooting the Heat 12-6. Lake Erie, however, was unable to solve Heat netminder Leland Irving, who was working on his 13th win of the season. The second frame came and went with the score still at 1-0.

Abbotsford turned the "heat" back on in the third frame, again besting the Monsters in the shots department, putting up nine shots on goal compared to four from Lake Erie. Monsters goaltender Jason Bacashihua held strong, however, stopping all nine of the third-period shots he faced, resulting in the 1-0 final score.

Playing in his first game with the Monsters since November 24th, Bacashihua recorded 33 saves on the 34 shots he saw in net. Irving stopped all 23 Lake Erie shots he faced.

The Monsters will be off until Saturday night, when they will play the front half of a back-to-back. The Toronto Marlies will visit Quicken Loans Arena, followed by a home game with the Houston Aeros on Sunday.
