Game Quotes, December 7th: IceHogs 4, Monsters 3 (SOL)

Head Coach Joe Sacco
(On how the team has been playing a more gritty style) “Hard work, there is no secret to success. We need all 19 skaters to show up and compete. We have a couple guys that are hurt so we aren’t quite as good as we can be. It’s a team effort and that is what has made us successful in our last half dozen games.”

(On getting Mitch Love back in the lineup) “Mitch brings energy to our team and is a gritty player. He is always sticking up for his teammates. He is a character guy. When Mitch plays within his limitations he’s very helpful and a very useful player. When he is in the lineup we are a better team.”

(On the second period struggles) “They are a very good offensive team with a lot of skill up front. The second period wasn’t the type of period we wanted. When you take penalty after penalty it is eventually going to catch up to you. We can’t give Rockford too many power plays. We got caught standing around.”

(On running traffic in front of Crawford) “That’s something we need to do in general as a group. Our forwards have to do a better job of getting in front of the goalie, getting some screens and deflections. That’s how you score goals in this league.”

Center Brent Kelly
(On being on a recent hot streak) “I got off to the my worst start of my pro career so far this year. I started working hard and just stayed positive and things are starting to look good for me now.”

(On something he has changed in his approach) “I’m just working hard and keeping things simple. You can’t really score the puck unless you shoot it, so I have just been trying to do that and they are going in for me now.”

(On what to do tomorrow to help get over tonight?) “We have to play 60 minutes. We played two really good periods and fell asleep in the second. They are good offensive team, so we know they are going to bury their scoring chances so we have to limit those and stay out of the penalty box.”
