Game Quotes, February 8th: Griffins 4, Monsters 1

Head Coach Joe Sacco
(On the score being 2-1, were we in the game) “It was a tough start, they were ready to play and we really weren’t. When we were down 2-0 after one, I thought the guys responded well. The start of the second period we were right in the game at 2-1, then there was an unfortunate bounce off a guy’s skate to make it 3-1.”

(On Griffins having success on power play) “Our penalty kill has struggled all year long and we are trying to improve. It seems like every time these guys were shooting the puck, it was going in the back of the net. We work on it everyday, it’s just the matter of killing one or two games in a row and then getting on a little bit of a roll.”

(On having chances in 2nd period) “When it was 2-1, I thought we were right in the game and had some energy. Then going to 3-1, it kind of deflated us and I thought it was a very questionable call.”

(On our success on power play in recent games) “I think we have been waiting for it, and we have been getting more comfortable with each other on the power play. We are still not where we need to be. There have been a couple of chances for putting teams away, or giving ourselves more of a cushion.”

Defenseman Michael Vernace
(On tonight’s game and playing back-to-back) “We came out pretty flat, and we’ve had better starts then that. Coach let us know in the 1st intermission that we have to execute better than that. We have to respond and be mentally ready for tomorrow.”

(On leading the team in assists) “I try to get the puck to the guy’s who know how to score the goals. He (Lundmark) is good player and has a great shot and showed that tonight.

(On the chemistry on the power play) “It’s an honor to play on the power play at this level. You have to play hard on the power play, just as hard as any other time. The guys that are out there are out there for a reason.”

(On getting more involved in the offense) “I know that’s why the count on me, play with a little offensive creativity and at the same time help out defensively.”
